LOTTERY INFO
The Unity Charter Lottery process follows the NJ Charter School Law (click here for more information about lottery).
The Lottery has four tiers for each grade, kindergarten through eighth.
-
Tier ONE for each grade includes students residing in the Morris School District with a sibling attending Unity.
-
Tier TWO for each grade includes students residing outside of Morris School District with a sibling attending Unity.
-
Tier THREE for each grade includes students residing in the Morris School District without a sibling attending Unity.
-
Tier FOUR for each grade includes students residing outside of the Morris School District without a sibling attending Unity.
A Waiting List is created for each grade, determined by 1) the four tiers, and 2) a random drawing of names, announced at the lottery. The lottery night process is as follows:
- All applicants are assigned a number based on the order they are picked at random.
- Based on the available positions, students at the top of the list in each respective grade will be accepted to Unity Charter.
- The remaining, non-accepted students will be moved up the waitlist accordingly.
- If there are two siblings on the waitlist, and one is accepted and the other is not, the sibling who did not get in will be moved to the top of the waitlist.
- Each student is then assigned a number on the Waiting List for each grade.
Note: Once a student begins to attend Unity Charter School, they do not have to reapply to the lottery each year. Unity accepts all applications and does not discriminate based on gender, race, color, religion, handicap or disability.
You will be notified by the end of March whether or not you have been accepted. If you are not accepted, we will advise your waitlist status, Students who are accepted will receive a pre-registration email and follow-up phone call from our Admissions Office.
