Teaching our students to set goals effectively can be a life changing experience. After returning from winter break and coming into a new year is always an exciting time to discuss techniques in goal setting. Goal setting is an important life skill that elementary school students need to learn about. Our school counselor typically starts the process with discussing how setting goals can have a positive impact on our lives. Next they move onto a brainstorming session where they discuss the things that they find important in their lives. Finally they put a plan together on how the goal will be accomplished. The bulletin board above is used to illustrate the process flow for making student goals become reality.
