Communityearth was founded in 1996 as “Unity Learning Environments, Inc.” (ULE), a New Jersey-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The purpose of creating ULE/communityearth was to apply for the charter and funding which created Unity Charter School.  The school was intended to be a new model for learning – a nurturing environment that would teach a sustainability-focused curriculum while meeting the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. Since the school opened in 1998, communityearth has served as the fiscal agent for Unity Charter School.  In this capacity, they fundraise for and accept donations on behalf of the school. In addition to supporting Unity Charter School, communityearth also supports local sustainability education initiatives, and works with other non-profit organizations, public and private partnerships to promote sustainability education programs, such as Earth Day at Lewis Morris Park,  “Cool the Earth”,  New Jersey Clean Power Choice and Sustainable Living Showcase.
