Literary Character Day at Unity Charter School

Written by Peter. Posted in Education

– by Tanya Seaward Last Friday, 1 March, if you happened to walk through the doors of Unity Charter School, you would have appeared to walk into another dimension.  Your senses would have been regaled with visions of wizards and warriors, princesses and poets – Oh my!  In conjunction with National Read Across America Day, the students at Unity dressed in costume of their favorite literary character.  Later in the day, the students enjoyed a multi-age experience where younger students were paired with older students and encouraged to read to each other.  Read Across America Day was started in 1998 by the National Education Association, who advocated for a special day to celebrate reading throughout the United States.  This nationwide observance coincides with the birthday of Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel), an American writer best known for writing children’s books. Take a peek at some of these fabulous characters!
